Something Good It is really nice in this day and age when a business does right by it’s customer rather than just worry about the almighty $ and the bottom line. So with that said I will tell you what happened to us the winter. Shortly after arriving in New Zealand my laptop died. I thought I was going to have a fit. 10,000 miles away and all my information, winter work and email addresses gone. We had a Circuit City extended warrantee on it but a fat lot of use that was going to do me in NZ. Well I decided to take it in to a local computer repair shop to see what the problem was and if it was something minor I would have paid to have it fixed. No big deal. But it wasn’t anything minor, in fact the mother board was fried and it would cost over NZ$2000 to fix it. A power surge was the cause. There was nothing to do but wait until I returned to get it fixed. On our return I contacted the warrantee department to get it fixed and wasn’t I in for a surprise. After 20 minutes on the phone all I got was well sorry Sir but your warrantee was voided when a 3rd party opened the laptop. I was fuming. I got on the phone to the store manager, Mark in Elyria and told him my plight. He said “oh well stuff happens, let me see what I can do for you through corporate. I really didn’t expect to hear back from him. Well early afternoon next day he called for some more details. Later in the afternoon he called back to say we should get a call from Kelly in warrantees. Just before 5 she called and said they would look at it and if it was something that was not caused by the people opening it then they would take care of it. They shipped us a box to send it in freight prepaid. Within a week they contacted us to say that the mother board had had a power surge and that they will be replacing the laptop. The only thing was that it would be twice as fast and twice the hard drive. Would that be alright. Well heck yes that would be alright was our response! They then proceeded to apologize because they would have to order it and we wouldn’t have it until Monday, it was Tuesday. We got it Friday. To top it off I got on their web site at 10pm on Sunday night to send a compliment to headquarters and at 5.30 next morning I had a personal reply thanking me for taking the time to contact them. Unbelievable! Thank you Mark and all of you at Circuit City who made this happen. This newsletter and a gift certificate to a restaurant will be given to Mark. So do you have something good to tell us about, if so please take a few minutes to put pen to paper for us. P.S. I was disappointed that the newspaper didn’t think it worthy of a mention. |
