Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

He fought his battle for 3 years.  During that time he said “It’s un-American not to fly a flag”.  So he said he’d build a flagpole.  When others found out his plan they willingly offered to help.  The  Walkerows donated their summers catch of fish for a fish fry with all proceeds buying material for the “new” flagpole.  The pole itself was donated as well as more than 50 bushes from Mary Hechko.  Larry was determined to finish the project while he still had time.  He did, the flag raising was in Sept. 1999 he passed in March 2000.  Larry made a special effort to get to know everyone in the park and there wasn’t anyone that he wouldn’t have done anything for. Also  there wasn’t anyone who wouldn’t do anything for him.

The plaque at the base of the pole given to him by his BHHP friends, reads:

“To our dearest friend, Larry.  A special thanks for all you have done for us and how you have taught us to live life to its fullest, making every day count.  You have made this year the best ever due greatly to your enthusiasm and endless energy.  From all of us,

Happy Birthday Larry”   9/12/99

When Larry Marshall arrived he was terminal with pancreatic cancer.
