Memorial Day is Monday May 30, 2005. With the world as it is today, we need to remember that this is more than just a day off from school, or a paid holiday off from work, or a day to have friends and family over for a barbecue or picnic. Memorial Day is much, much more. It is a time for us to remember the countless number of men and women who have lost their lives serving our great nation.

 Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. It was established in 1868 to honor the dead from the Civil War. General John A Logan designated a day at the graves of the Civil War soldiers giving way to the name Decoration Day. Within 20 years, the name was officially changed to Memorial Day becoming a holiday dedicated to the memory of all our fallen war heroes. It became a Federal Holiday in 1971.

 The "Memorial" in Memorial Day has been ignored by too many of us who are beneficiaries of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Often we do not observe this day in the way that we should. On this day, we should actively remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Some ways that we can honor those who gave their all are by visiting cemeteries and placing flags or flowers on the graves of fallen soldiers, by flying the US Flag at half staff until noon or by flying the POW/MIA Flag

 The best way that I can think of honoring our dead is le is by sharing with all of you something I found on the Internet. The author is Mary Frye and her words are truly moving. Please take a moment to read and reflect upon what she wrote.

Mama and baby are doing fine.  It was a tough decision naming this little one.  We went through all the names and  so  the baby is now Sun Dee, born on Sunday, son of Cindy Dee !

Honor Memorial DayText Box:
 "Do not stand at my grave and weep;
 I am not there, I do not sleep.
 I am a thousand winds that blow.
 I am the softly falling snow.
 I am the gentle showers of rain.
 I am the fields of ripening grain.
 I am the morning hush.
 I am the graceful rush of beautiful birds
 in circling flight.
 I am the star shine of the night.
 I am the flowers that bloom.
 I am in a quiet room.
 I am the birds that sing.
 I am in each lovely thing.
 Do not stand at my grave and cry;
 I am not there. I did not die."
