Straight from the Horse’s mouth OK, I have had enough of this ‘I’m not allowed to ride that one’ or ‘I’m not allowed over there’ or ‘I’m not allowed what ever’ so unless you parents tell me directly it won’t happen. Having the kids as a go between to relay messages just won’t cut it. Last year was a learning experience for us all and this year the emphases is going to be on safety (hence the riding boots and helmet), but remember they are horses with a mind of their own and things will happen. There isn’t a sport that people don’t get hurt in. Michael just broke 2 bones in his leg playing a friendly game of football. Alison spent most of last year with several injuries from volleyball. As a kid I dislocated my little toe on a vaulting horse and talk about painful, it was worst than breaking my leg. It is all part of learning and while we don’t intend to injure ourselves it happens. No one has come off as many times as I have and I’m sure I am less flexible and more prone to injury than any other rider to date. I will try to have people ride to their ability but if you don’t push your limit then you will never progress further than the mounting barrel. I’m going to set up a bucking barrel to help learn to ride on but there is no substitute for the horse. I have also given them balance exercises to do. |

A special thanks to our new animal editor who will be contributing to the newsletter this year. If you have any horsie questions for Toe Socks please put it in the drop box and I’m sure she will do her best to answer them. |
